"Coil of Rope"

Definitely, an odd shaped knob! Shown in the 1925 Earle Hardware catalog page 90. The 1928 Rite Hardware catalog page 44 has similar but the coil is counter clock-wise. The 1929 Weiser catalog page 44 also has a similar knob.
