Shortly before President McKinley was assassinated in Buffalo at the Pan American Exposition, he had issued the formal invitation to participants for the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Centennial Exposition in St. Louis. In 1902 a new high school in St. Louis was named for the fallen President, and these doorknobs were cast by Corbin in his honor.
