Founded in 1894 with their name based upon the novel,Ben Hurby General Lew Wallace,  a fraternal organization named the Tribe of Ben Hur was incorporated in Indiana to sell mutual insurance to members. By 1912 the company had grown enough to afford a new office building in Crawfordsville. The five story office building was furnished by Corbin with monogram doorknobs which were listed  as "Mon.
