McCB McCormick Building
|
Leander McCormick and his brother Cyrus were pioneers in the farm equipment business, and Leander's family invested heavily in Chicago real estate. The McCormick Building on Michigan Avenue faces Grant Park, and was the first of two buildings using the McCormick monogram on the doorknobs. The later Lumber Exchange/Roanoke Building has similar doorknobs without a B in the monogram (P-46180). The building was built in 2 sections, in 1910 and in 1912. See picture below. The 1910 section used Yale & Towne hardware. The 1912 section used hardware by P & F Corbin. The Corbin plates are marked with the Corbin number S4775. The fronts of the plates seem identical.
